How to Split an Image

Vizua is a free image splitter that divides any photo into a precise grid of equal pieces. Drop your image, set the number of rows and columns, and instantly get perfectly sized pieces ready to download individually or as a ZIP archive.

The tool processes everything in your browser — your images are never uploaded to any server. Adjust the grid from 1x1 up to 10x10 (100 pieces) and watch the preview update in real time with grid overlay lines.

Instagram Grid Posts

One of the most popular uses for image splitting is creating Instagram grid layouts. Split a panoramic photo into a 1x3 or 3x1 strip for a seamless carousel effect, or divide a large image into a 3x3 grid that forms a complete picture on your profile. Upload the pieces in reverse order (bottom-right first) to maintain the correct layout.

Multi-Page Printing

Need to print a poster-sized image on standard paper? Split your high-resolution photo into a grid matching your paper layout (e.g., 2x3 for six A4 sheets), print each piece, and assemble them. Each piece maintains the original resolution for crisp, professional results.

100% Private — Browser-Based

Your images stay on your device. Vizua processes the split entirely in your browser using Canvas technology — no files are uploaded to any server. This is especially important for sensitive or proprietary images. The tool works offline after the initial page load.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I split an image into equal parts?

Drop your image into Vizua, choose the number of rows and columns (e.g., 3x3 for 9 pieces), and the tool automatically splits it into a perfectly even grid. Download individual pieces or all at once as a ZIP file.

What is image splitting used for?

Common uses include creating Instagram grid posts (3x1 panoramas or 3x3 grids), splitting large images for printing on multiple pages, creating puzzle pieces, preparing sprite sheets for game development, and dividing scanned documents into sections.

Can I split an image into unequal parts?

Vizua splits images into equal grid cells based on rows and columns. For unequal splits, first crop the sections you need using our crop tool, then use the splitter for any remaining even divisions.

What happens if the image dimensions are not perfectly divisible?

Vizua uses integer division, so any extra pixels at the right edge or bottom are trimmed to ensure all pieces are exactly the same size. For most images, this difference is imperceptible (1-2 pixels at most).

Can I download all pieces at once?

Yes. After splitting, you can download individual pieces by clicking on them, or use the "Download All (ZIP)" button to get every piece in a single ZIP archive. Files are named with row and column numbers for easy reassembly.
