How to Remove a White Background

Vizua is a free white background remover that converts white areas in your image to transparent pixels. Drop your image, adjust the tolerance to match your background shade, and instantly get a transparent PNG ready for use on any colored background, website, or design project.

The tool works by calculating the color distance of each pixel from pure white. Pixels within your tolerance threshold become fully transparent. Enable edge smoothing for a clean, professional transition between your subject and the transparent area — no harsh edges or white fringing.

Perfect for Product Photography

E-commerce platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Shopify require product photos with white or transparent backgrounds. Use Vizua to quickly remove white backgrounds from your product shots and create clean, professional listings. The tolerance slider handles slight variations in background shade caused by lighting.

Logos and Scanned Documents

Company logos often come as JPGs with white backgrounds. Convert them to transparent PNGs that overlay cleanly on any surface. Similarly, scanned signatures and stamps can be extracted from their white paper background for digital document workflows.

100% Private — Browser-Based

Your images stay on your device. Vizua processes the background removal entirely in your browser using Canvas pixel analysis — no files are uploaded to any server. This is especially important for product photos and proprietary content. The tool works offline after the initial page load.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does white background removal work?

Vizua analyzes each pixel in your image and compares it to pure white (255, 255, 255). Pixels that are close to white — within the tolerance you set — become transparent. The result is a PNG with an alpha channel where the white background used to be. Edge smoothing blends the transition between subject and transparent areas.

What does the tolerance slider do?

Tolerance controls how "close to white" a pixel needs to be to become transparent. At 0%, only pure white pixels are removed. At 30% (default), near-white and light gray pixels are also removed, which handles shadows and off-white backgrounds. Higher values remove more but may eat into light-colored subjects.

What is edge smoothing?

Edge smoothing creates a gradual transition at the boundary between your subject and the transparent background. Without smoothing, the edges can look jagged or have white fringing. With smoothing enabled, Vizua applies a soft alpha gradient at the edges for a cleaner, more professional cutout.

How is this different from "Remove Background"?

The "Remove Background" tool uses AI to detect the subject and remove any background color. This white background remover uses a simpler, faster color-threshold approach specifically designed for images that already have a white or near-white background — like product photos, scanned documents, or logos.

Can I process multiple images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple images and Vizua will remove the white background from each one with the same tolerance and smoothing settings. Browse results individually or download all as a ZIP file.
